The Civil War Musket wasn’t the type of weapon that should have been used at all during the Civil War.

The only reason it was used at all was simply due to the fact that both sides already had so many thousands of them in their inventory to begin with.

The smooth bore musket was a very inaccurate short range unreliable weapon.

It was a better club then a firearm.

After 1863 the Union no longer used the smooth bore musket at all.

The Confederacy on the other hand still used them throughout the entire war albeit in very small numbers.

Both sides of course converted to the much more powerful and accurate rifled musket. Which could not be compared to the smooth bore in any way.

The rifled musket was far superior in every respect.
